First, we would like to say a few words about implants in order to answer questions that often arise in our practice and dispel misconceptions.
What is an implant?
An implant is an artificial tooth root. It replaces the root part of the lost tooth. Its material is typically titanium or its alloy. The implantation of the implant is preceded by thorough planning. If the implant can be implanted and is sufficiently fixed in the jaws (so-called "osseointegration"), we make a prosthetic for it.
The prosthetic can be fixed or removable. In general, it can be said that no matter which solution can be implemented, the denture prepared for the implant will be much more stable and durable.
Can anyone get an implant?
The implantation of the implant is subject to strict rules. In order for a patient to receive an implant, it is essential to comply with them.
We must take into account:
-For the patient's underlying diseases, including diseases affecting bone and bone metabolism, hematological and oncological diseases
-For the treatments received by the patient (chemotherapy, radiation)
-For medications taken or received regularly by the patient
-For the age of the patient
-For potentially existing harmful habits (this includes smoking as a relative contraindication)
-For the amount of available bone
